I took these photos in August while experimenting with a new macro lens. I flexed my photography muscle first at New York Botanical Gardens, then at Untermyer Park in Yonkers. These were taken as is and haven’t been edited at all.
Baby, it’s cold outside. But every winter in the Bronx at New York Botanical Garden, you can experience a piece of tropical paradise inside even when it is 20 degrees outside. Last week we enjoyed milder spring and autumn-like weather while the forecast for tomorrow and Saturday warn us of possible snow. What to do?
Check out the Tropical Paradise exhibition going on from January 19th to February 24th, 2013. What to expect? While this is technically a permanent exhibit, the flora is labeled with bright, cheerful signage giving the name of the plant, as well as what the common use is. Chocolate? Vanilla? Bananas? Guava? It’s got all that and more!
An added bonus: fancy yourself a photog? Well, check out free photography classes given Sundays from 1 to 3 PM. Afterwards, you can upload your best shots and enter them in the Tropical Paradise Photography Contest.
Here are a few of mine for inspiration:
Still feeling cold? Take a trip to the Garden Café for some hot chocolate…or chardonnay!
